Annual User Fees Increase has been Announced
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced the annual increases in user fees.
They include:
- Formal entry merchandise fee minimum from $29.68 to $32.71 and the maximum from $575.35 to $634.62.
- Informal entry; automated from $2.37 to $2.62 and manual from $7.12 to $7.85.
- Commercial truck arrival from $6.50 to $7.20 User Fee Increase
USTR Delays Section 301 Additional Duties Due in August
On May 28, 2024, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) proposed certain modifications of the actions in the Section 301 investigation of China’s Acts, Policies, and Practices Related to Technology Transfer, Intellectual Property, and Innovations that we reported in our May 31 Memo to Clients. In response to the notice, the USTR received over 1,000 comments. The USTR has decided to postpone the increases to review the proposal more closely. They expect the extra review to be completed by late August. Assistant USTR Says AGOA Renewal Not Expected in 2024
In a press conference with African journalists the Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Africa Constance Hamilton stated that while there is an AGOA renewal bill that has been addressed in the Senate. She did not think that the final passage would happen in 2024 but should pass before AGOA expires.
PierPass Fees Will Increase on September 1
The West Coast Marine Terminal Operators Agreement (WCMTOA) has announced that on September 1, 2024, the Traffic Mitigation Fee (TMF) collected by PierPass at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach will increase by 6%. The change matches the longshore labor wages s increase in the contract between the ILWU and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA). The TMF will increase to $37.37 per TEU (twenty-foot equivalent) and to $75.42 for all other size containers.
